Kaia rose as she always does, early and cheerful. She unraveled her braids and slipped on her new school clothes. She ate homeade cinnamon rolls and bacon for breakfast. She grabbed her tried-and-true pink and green backpack, stuffed with her lunch, pencil box (filled with colorful pens, pencils, and erasers), and icy water bottle. She suffered throught the endless pictures, taken by her sweating, doting mother, with endless patience. She proudly showcased her jack-o-lantern grin, time and time again. We all walked together and dropped off Gabby at her first day of kindergarten, with Kaia's old teacher, Mrs. Riley. Then when the bell rang for the older kids, we walked Kaia to her classroom. This was her first year with an individual desk. She found her name tag, placed her backpack on her chair on got to work on her worksheet. Hugs, kisses, pictures, "eat your vegetabes first", and that was it.
Well, the lunch didn't get touched, because it was a 105 degree day, and she was "way too hot!" to eat a thing. She apparently just sat at the lunch table and chugged water. THEN, she proceeded to leave the lunch that mom invested much time, thought and money into, on the playground to attract ants. Had she eaten it, her belly would've been filled with a pancake sandwich filled with peanut butter and nuttella, fruit kabobs(pineapple, cantelope, grapes) with a creamy dip, veggie straws, fruit leather, all natural Kozy Shack chocolate pudding, crunchy, cold vegetable sticks (carrots, celery, radishes, and jicima). So, I got harshly scolded for not sending enough "drinks" with her, when I picked her up after her long day. But all in all, she really liked the teacher, the kids and the new classroom environment. Her shoes were untied though, because she hasn't decided to master that skill yet. She will learn quick enough, being that the only school shoes purchased for her thus far, have laces. What a student Kaia is! I am so glad that learning comes so naturally for her. She is such a hard worker. If you ask her, she will tell you that she got the "hard working gene, from her Gammy Girl".
