Gabby's 1st Day of Kindergarten

Gabby rose in high spirits and dressed with care.  She brushed her hair and smoothed her freshly cut bangs.  She slipped on her backpack and slip on tennis shoes. She engulfed a bagel with cream cheese on the way to school. She had a quiet peace about her.  She had arrived at kindergarted at last! We waited for her new teachers to open the door, while I wiped her face and Gene snapped photos.  Penny wore her backpack as well and looked forward to joining the big kids in the classroom.  Gabby greeted her teachers, Mrs. Riley and Mrs. Jordan, hung up her backpack and pulled up a chair at the nearest table.  She started coloring a worksheet right away, and told me, "I'm gonna miss you mommy."  After a tight hug, we said goodbye and left her to embark on her educational journey.

After school, she ran up to me and held her chest out proudly, to showcase her "I did my best" ribbon sticker.  She said,"It was the best day of my life!" She went on to describe the school's "computer store", "book store", and "aquarium" (computer lab, library, and God knows what the aquarium was!).  She was so impressed. So were we.  We know she is going to succeed wildly.  Over the next couple of days, it was amazing to witness how aware she was of her new school environment.  She would come home, and not only remember everything she did, but be able to update me on things that were coming up or things that needed to be brought in.  She even would remind me the following morning! She took the initiative to make the prinical a birthday card when she got home from school one day.  What kindergartener knows it is the principals birthday? I am sooooo proud of her.
