Front Yard Festivities

whether it be the first taste of fresh air in the mid-morning, or the attempt to cure boredom in the hot after-school hours, a day wouldn't be complete without some time spent in the front yard. Typically, we will lay out a blanket, snap open a couple of folding chairs, and drag out, what feels like three-thousand wheeled-toys. In addition to the purple jeep, the red and yellow car, the red scooter, the black motorcycle trike, the baby trike, Gabby's bike(which just recently shed its training wheels!), and several helmets, sometimes we will also grab some other fun items for good measure...Bubbles, chalk, and garden shovels. Lately, Gabby has taken to basking in the sun, on the sidewalk, while calling out requests for prepared snacks; hands locked behind her head, legs crossed and grin, ear to ear.  They love to call out and wave to neighbors as they come in and out.  Earlier this spring, a mother duck laid her nest in a bush across the court, in Jerry's yard.  The kids enjoyed checking in on mother and eggs from time to time.  Of course, they would always prefer that "water" be involved in the front yard.  Just the other day, I was scrubbing the car mats on the lawn and the kids discovered that they made perfect resevoirs for little pools.  That blog is coming up.
