Halloween 2010

Grandma was here for the weekend.  Gabby was Cleopatra.  She knew she wanted to be an "Egyptian lady" the minute she experimented with black eyeliner.  She also learned how to dance like an egyptian, during VBS last summer.  So we got a couple of library books on Cleopatra, and we came to find that she and Gabby aren't all that different.  They are both ambitious, beautiful, and smart. Also, we all know how much Gabby loves GOLD.  So Gabby helped me and Gammy pick out the material and all the beadwork, in mid september, and we worked on it whenever we could, until the Thursday before Halloween.

Kaia toyed with a few costume concepts, before settling on a Mad Scientist.  She started out planning on a basic Cat; simple, traditional, conservative.  Then she was really excited about being a Pokemon Trainer. Until....she some pictures of other people dressed as "Misty", online...quite skanky.  Somewhere between the daisy-dukes and the super short yellow tanktop, Kaia lost her nerve-"no...That one is too embarrassing.".  Then it hit her like a bolt of lightning...and she knew, beyond a shadow of a doubt, a Mad Scientist she would be.  We collected items here and there; Boots from Target, a lab coat and glasses from a Halloween store, and a re-gifted sassy wig from our dear neighbor Sandy.  The wig, we sprayed with gray hair dye and teased into an oblivion....only to find that Kaia found it too embarrassing as well.  She did wear it for pictures atleast.

Kaleb's costume was my idea, and I did not give him a voice in the matter.  For I know that in the years to come, I'm certain he will insist on being a ninja, an army guy, or something equally "blah" for a mother, such as myself to enjoy.  He was the perfect embodiment of "little boy" in that costume. Gammy and I made the chaps and the vest in no time at all. He loved it.  He wore all that crap the whole day at school and throughout the entirety of all the Halloween events.  We are talking boots, hat, chaps, bandana, vest, gun, and sheriff star.

Penny wore a cozy costume that Gammy and I made for Goo-Bear when she was almost 2.  To get her excited about wearing it, I simply suggested that she hop around on the floor like a bunny. Done!

Gene and I dressed up the night prior, for a neighborhood party with an SNL theme.  We went as Helen Madden, the Joyoligist, and Brian Fellows.  I won the costume contest. We found our stuff in 20 minutes at the Goodwill.

We trick or treated with Gammy, Grandma, Uncle T, and Gampy Boy. Gabby led the pack, and Kaia dragged along at a snail's (Norwiegan's) pace.  Penny LITERALLY said "Trick-or-Treat", "Thank-You", and Happy Awaween" to everyone.  We came home and nibbled a bit on our favs, while watching Practical Magic.  Gabby loved it. So did I. Kaia folded herself into a laundry basket, lined with blankets and pillows, placed on two office swivel chairs.....and fell asleep......moving on!  Gabby also attempted to set up shop outside our front door, trying to lure innocent trick-or-treaters into purchasing junk from her.  She had a metal cashbox, a lantern, and a odd collection of items spread out on the porch. Typical Gabby, always trying to make a buck...even if it is at the cost of taking advantage of youngsters, drugged by processed sugar and the illusion of freedom. It is actually not a bad idea.
