Gabby's 1st Big Time Saturday Swim Meet

Got the ice chest packed, red wagon loaded, sunscreen applied (mostly on Benny and Mom), and all seven of us off to the first Saturday swim meet. We drove an hour even deeper into the armpit of the Central Valley to a lovely little town, which gave Gene and I, yet again, another opportunity to utilize our favorite movie quote, since our move, "Sure is nice to rub elbows with these nice country folks, aint it Hare?"-Jim Carrey (Dumb and Dumber).

Gabby was nervous, but her nerves seemed to give her an edge and keep her focused.  She was so fun to watch. She didn't DQ at all this time, and she came in first for her freestyle event (out of 2 girls, but oh well!).  She was beaming. She fell asleep on the way home, she was so wiped out.  We got stuff to make sundays and a couple of whole chickens for Gene to smoke.

The hands on the swimcap stance is her go-to mental preparation mode postition.  She is thinking about what number her event is and where her coach is, what stroke she is doing next, how she is going to have to dive, ect... She rocks.
